South African-Inspired Retreat in Sitges

Interior Design & Full Refurbishment

A warm and refined home for family life

In the coastal village of Sitges, this vibrant second home was created for a London-based family of five who wanted a space that felt warm, relaxed and deeply considered. With roots in Sri Lanka and London, and lasting memories of their years spent in Cape Town, they were drawn to homes that feel generous, natural and alive.

Working closely with the family, we reimagined the apartment as a lighter, calmer retreat shaped by quiet luxury and subtle references to South African living. The result is a home that feels easier to live in, richer in atmosphere and more connected to the rhythms of family life.

DESIGN MOMENTS

A home made for gathering

The apartment was reworked to feel open, sociable and easy to live in, with the kitchen, dining and living areas flowing together as one generous family space. The layout now supports entertaining, everyday life and the natural movement of a busy household.

Warmth underfoot

The original glossy floors were replaced with a brushed wood-look vinyl collection that immediately softened the apartment. The new surface brings warmth and calm to the house, creating a more grounded atmosphere from the moment you enter.

A kitchen with character

The kitchen became the anchor of the home, with straight-line walnut doors, a concealed hood and a Calacatta Gold porcelain worktop. A breakfast nook finished with patterned wallpaper adds a more personal, playful note that keeps the room feeling warm rather than overly minimal.

A larger sense of space

Walls, ceilings, doors and frames were colour-drenched in a single tonal palette to make the apartment feel taller, calmer and more cohesive. Floor-to-ceiling wave curtains complete the effect, softening the room while adding movement and quiet elegance.

Order with beauty

The wardrobes were completely redesigned inside and out, with mid-century inspired walnut doors, creamy interiors and integrated LED lighting. Across the home, bespoke joinery brought more elegance, more storage and a stronger architectural identity.

Seven bathrooms with their own identity

Each of the seven bathrooms was given a distinct personality while remaining visually coherent with the wider project. Texture, colour palette and material continuity create variety without fragmentation.

An attic designed for real holiday life

The attic became a generous games room with theatrical atmosphere for football nights and family downtime, alongside a quieter workspace by the window. It reflects the kind of flexible, multi-use living many international families are looking for in a second home.

Jimena brought a superb combination of creative & design, technical knowledge and project management. She conducts herself in a professional manner, always on time and her attention to detail is very high.

Our house looks fabulous and we are very happy with the end result. We would recommend her without question.
