Refined Elegance in integral renovations: “50 Shades of Grey" Project by Interior Designer in Sitges
The Project
SITGES FAMILY RETREAT
INTERIOR DESIGN & REFURBISHMENT
In the picturesque coastal village of Sitges, Barcelona, lies a hidden architectural gem: a beautiful Mediterranean-style house that originally consisted of two traditional attached houses merged to create a 350 sqm residential property. This house, captivating with its original wooden patio doors leading to the garden and the natural light it receives, had belonged to the owners of a prestigious luxury brand in Barcelona.
My clients, a lovely English family with family roots in Spain, wished to transform this house into their vacation retreat. In close collaboration with them, an integral interior design project was undertaken to turn this residence into a modern-classic Mediterranean-style home.
The meticulously crafted interior remodelling project done by the studio significantly changed the original layout. The ground floor was reorganised to create a social home with an open concept, merging the kitchen, dining area, and living room to encourage family time together. The living room became the heart of the house, with views to the swimming pool. The peninsula kitchen layout enhanced the circulation towards the garden.
The interior design style consisted on a colour palette of neutral colours, earthy tones, and touches of deep blue to capture the Mediterranean essence. The choice of porcelanic floors laid in herringbone pattern and in warm tones inspired by sand, extended throughout the house, including the seven bathrooms. Cornices and mouldings added a classic touch and elegantly framed the spaces. The upper floor experienced a thorough transformation. The six en-suite bedrooms’ layout, many of them with outdated bathtubs, was optimised. The master suite was transformed into a luxurious parents retreat with a king-size bed and custom headboard, a walk-in closet, and a dreamy bathroom with a shower, freestanding bathtub, and panoramic views of Sitges. Three en-suite rooms were turned into teens dream bedrooms for the boys of the family, with custom furniture and beds maximizing space and an elegant, timeless style. The guest bedroom was transformed into a chic and functional space with a blue velvet headboard from end to end of the wall and a custom bed with storage. Each of the six headboards was bespoke designed and hand-crafted, with clients customizing fabrics to create unique bedrooms. The meticulous design extended to the seven bathrooms, each with its own identity but maintaining visual coherence in colours and textures. The attic, conceived as an epic game room, became the perfect place for relaxation and entertainment. Its theatrical design offers an ideal space for watching football games or playing FIFA among siblings. It also features a small workspace by the window. The lighting was carefully designed to transform spaces and adapt to various daily activities. All fixtures are dimmable, meeting the clients' wishes. In summary, this house in Sitges represents a fusion of Mediterranean tradition and classic-modern style, meticulously designed to be a charming and welcoming family retreat on the picturesque coast of Barcelona.
